Calumite Slag

Vstake Overseas is the only manufacturer that has replicated Calumite Slag.

Calumite slag is produced by processing special king of GGBS that is derived from iron and steel factories. THis material has a very crucial role in the glass manufacturing as it can be used as a flux to reduce the melting temprature hereby improve the efficiency of glass prodcution.

Composition of Calumite Slag

Typical composition includes:

  • Silica (SiO₂): ~35–40%

  • Calcium Oxide (CaO): ~35–40%

  • Alumina (Al₂O₃): ~10–15%

  • Iron Oxide (Fe₂O₃): ~10%

Properties

  • Dark gray to black powder

  • High density and low porosity

  • Non-hygroscopic and chemically stable

  • Low melting point compared to other raw materials

Uses of Calumite Slag

1. Glass Manufacturing

Calumite slag is used asa fluxing agent to reduce the melting point of the batch and hece reducing the energy consumption and overall reducing the cost of the end product, i.e. glass.

It improved the uniformity ad=nd stability of molten glass.

It is very usedful to contril the colour and quality of the glass as it improves the oxidation-reduction balance in the glass-melt.

Environmental Benefits

As it's a waste/byproduct of iron and steel industry, which is processed and used for it's best in glass industry, it's providing great benefits and it reduces landfill wastes.

As it reduces the energy consumption, it reduces the overall carbon footprint caused due to manufacturing of glass.
