When natural nolomite is calcined (heated) at high tempratures, it's converts into calcined dolomite. CO₂ is released when dolomite is heated and the final product (CaMg(CO₃)₂) is formed. Calcined dolomite or burnt dolomite is highly amorphous and hydrophilic in nature. It has a lot of industrial uses. Some of them are listed below:

Applications of Calcined Dolomite

1. Steel Industry

Calcined dolomite is used a s a fluxing agent to remove impurities like silica, phosphorus, and sulfur during the production of steel.

2. Environmental and Water Treatment

It is used to neutralize acidic soil in agriculture

It's also used for water treatment to remove impurities by adjusting the pH and softening the water.

3. Construction Industry

It's used in cement and concrete to improve durability and reduce shrinkage.

Used for making magnesium based cements which has several unique applications.

4. Glass and Ceramics Industry

It's used as a source of magnesium oxide in glass industry to improve durability and reduce expansion on heat.

It's specially used in fibre glass manufacturing.
